My beautiful fiance in Ghana

by Mike C.
(NYC)

I have a fiancé in Ghana. We met online when I was going through a divorce. We talk via Facebook, and sometimes we video chat. I am from Nigeria, but I have been a US citizen for 20 years.

Two years ago I obtained a US visa for my fiancé but she always has a reason why she cannot come to me, this has been going on for two years. There is always an excuse, that she can't come. Once, she said she had to go to Nigeria to work on a movie. She also told me that she was going to nursing school, and the sister campus in NYC had cancelled her student contact.

Lately, she decided that social and economic conditions in the US were less than favorable, and now I send items that she can sell in Ghana. She says that as a future married couple, we should have a business in Ghana. I also send her and lend her friend money via western union. I think our relationship is special, she is a beautiful and attractive woman in her 30s.

I will be 61 years of age this year. I feel that I am helping someone from a stable country in Africa. My relationship does prevent me from getting involved with a women in my immediate community, I still hope this woman will come to the US and live with me some day, and I think we will be very happy. In the back of my mind sometime, I think I am being scammed.

Please help me get a better perspective.

Thank-you

Unfortunately it appears as if you’re being scammed. Think of the thousands of people praying to obtain a US passport. You were able to obtain one for her yet she won’t come because the social and economic climate is less than favorable???

The US economy is quite strong and the political/social climate I’m sure much better than in Ghana. Why is she asking you to loan money to her friend? Student contracts do not mysteriously get cancelled.

I suggest you stop sending her money, gifts etc. If she truly loves you it will not matter. If she suddenly disappears or gets angry/nasty then you’ll know you’re being scammed.

Lastly, suggest she visit you or better yet, you visit her for the holidays and see what reaction you get.

I’ll bet she’ll have an excuse for why that isn’t feasible. Good luck!
