This one found me on dating site POF. A widower with a 8 year old daughter. He was a self employed computer programmer for 18 years. Wife and son died in car accident 4 years ago stated in profile.

His mail stated 2 years. He wanted to talk through email and not the site. Didn't dawn on me that was a sign. He talked about finding a relationship after death of wife. Long letters. Asked questions about favorite things. How to treat your partner etc.

At 3rd letter he said he got call from hospital in Nigeria about sick dad and had to leave state. His dad is Nigerian. Mom American. He was raised in Italy. The trip raised a red flag but I wanted to see how many more letters till he asked for money.

It happened with the 7th mail about dad having surgery and needed help. I never sent any money but he gave me instructions to send it through moneygram. He sent pictures of him and daughter.

The guy was definitly Italian looking and spoke with Italian accent. His phone number came from Nigeria. I did notice discrepancies in his letters and he wouldn't tell me what city he lived in, his citizenship, or his dads town.

I already notified one scam agency so far.

Scams

Hi Anita!
I let the first scammer go through the motions just to see what would happen, and I got the same story that you did. When I get them now, I just play with them like asking how much money they want, where to send it through Money Gram and see what happens.

Then I tell them I will send money when I verify their information, and POOF! They disappear. lol,,

I figure if I can't keep them from taking over the Internet, I might as well have fun with it.
Just do not ever believe what is being said to you. I'm sure there is a big office of them in cubicles just trolling the net looking for vulnerable people to steal from, basically using the same story.

Let me know if you decide to play with them too! :-)

Hello again Anita!
I have been getting friend requests from these people everywhere I go on the Internet, and learned that when you demand their social security number, home address, and phone number (you know, so that one of your family members that are in the government ;) can verify the information), they stop the conversation right then and there.

It's funny how they try to act innocent. But trust me, it's been working for me. I like to ask them why they don't write like educated Americans, and that's when they say they are in another country. Just have fun with them.

It's good to hear you will not be sending any money to them!

After not sending money he wanted to talk and explain himself. He has even tried to call me numerous times but I don't answer.

I easily recognize the area code for Nigeria. No more emails since I stated I wasn't sending money to help.

Hi Anita!
by: Terri

I received a friend request on Skype, and after the first sentence he wrote I knew he was lying to me. He said he was an orthopedic surgeon from the U.S. and that he was working in Syria.

Of course I played along! He said he got permission to go on leave to come see me but I had to send $750 and he would pay me back as soon as he got here. It was a moneygram thingy with the address in Nigeria.

I said yea, ok, just give me a few months to save it up and he got upset. So I said I sent it, but to a different city and he blew up again.

I just blocked him and laughed my butt off!
