Zoosk.com Nigerian Dating Scam

John Tate ID: knightjay01 (yahoo & hotmail)

On 2-5, John Tate Contacted me on Zoosk.com. He gave me his email address and wanted me to email him directly. Once I emailed him, the Zoosk account as deactivated.

He mailed me every day, telling me all about himself and asked me question after question. He told me his mother was from Illinois and his father was from Nigeria. He told me he was born and raised in Rome, Italy but was now living in Missouri.

Within the first day or two, he told me that he was having to rush off to Nigeria because his father was ill and in the hospital. He continued to email me like clock work. He wanted me to call him, and gave me his phone number of 0112348126394700.

Because the charges are extremely high, and called from my computer on 2-11. That same day, he asked me to log on to Yahoo Messenger and add him so we could talk. Attached is the conversations that took place. I have XXXX out my id for my own Privacy. (I was so upset, after realized I had been had, I deleted the actual emails, but I was able to save the yahoo conversation.)

Please know I DID NOT send him any money! I have Changed the color of the text on the parts were he was asking for money and telling me where to send it.

He is really slick and will tell you everything you want to hear.

Same story here. Met Eric Archie on Zoosk. Immediately wanted my email. Chatted for a month, he is an Engineer who travels to other countries. His current job in Ireland is his last, then he is retiring to be my man.

God answered his prayers and sent me to him. He had not asked for money, but I'm sure it was coming.

I saw John on Our time dating site. Still the same story being in IRAQ. Poor thing hasn't learned yet. I will turn him in. I was well invested 100% heart and emotion. I'll never trust again. I even contacted Dr. Phil but you saved me the embarrassment.

How people can shatter lives and there's no penalty. I will go to the authorities. He must be filthy rich by now since 2004. Right with you gals.

John K. Lucero is a loser all the way around. He needs God, not my love, which was as if I were his wife.

Thank You!

Threatened by a scammer
by: Cindy King

My husband got on this dating site and they scammed him 3 or 4 times. Well this girl said her name was Jessica Dawson she scammed my husband out of 25,000.00 dollars. Well apparently another scammer had him to give her iTunes cards. I took my husband's phone away from him but this girl kept texting him and telling him how much she loved him.

I pretended I was him and I finally owned up that she was talking to his his wife. I told her she wasn't honest because she wouldn't go after a married man. She got angry and told me if I didn't give my husband to her she would kill me

Dr. Sid
by: Anonymous

A Dr. Sid tried to scam me! He asked me to please buy him a Vanilla card from Walmart or Target. I called him out on it and. Sadly I was AGAIN asked to purchase a $100 iTunes card by a "DAVID".

I played along and later called him out on it. Telling him I would report him to the police. I was threatened by him. Needless to say, I deleted my Zoosk account.

I was scammed!!!
by: Anonymous

I was also scammed out of a lot of money when I was very vulnerable. I'm ashamed to even say twice.

I'm an honest person and thought lots of people were just like me. 😡😢

This guy told me that he was in Baghdad, Iraq and would be retiring from the Army in a month. We emailed back and forth for about 1 month, and he had not received his letter of retirement yet.

Then he finally received his letter and that is when he told me that he received a reward from Iraq government. It was 1 million dollars in gold. Of course I knew right then it was a scam. He needed me to pay for the gold to get tested to see what it was really worth and get the certificates to. When I asked about the cost he claimed he had to check with an attorney that he hired over there.

Because he could not bring it back on the plane and that he would share it with me. Also that his accounts are "freezed" not frozen...lol. I did some checking into this the next day and then I sent him an email that this was a scam and that I was going to report him to the Army Investigators, and that he would not get any money from me.

I thought for sure that I would not hear from him again, but he sent me a email all mad at me saying he didn't ask me for money and to move on. I replied and told him that really you didn't ask for money and sent him a snap shot of the conversation of him asking me for the money, and never heard from him again.

His name that he went by was John K Lucero, not sure if that is just a name he used from someone or if that is his real name. Oh and the middle initial stands for "King" because his dad is/was the King of Greece.

So ladies please watch out for this guy, nice looking guy but out for your money. Oh and when I told him he should talk to his mother about doing this for him since we did not know each other that well, she is now sick and in the hospital. This is just sad that people have nothing better to do than to play with peoples emotions and hearts.

And this does not help for real men and women that are looking for a connection with someone.

Recently been ZOOSKED!!
by: Anonymous

I was scammed good. Three weeks of heart felt love letters. Claiming he was architect in NYC widowed with a 7yrs old boy. Both parents died. He was raising his son and wanted a wife. After one chat session he gave me his gmail:

marcogemini06@gmail.com.

He would send 10 paragraph long emails. Saying everything a girl wanted to hear. He didn't contact me the first 2 weekends. And claimed his internet wasnt working. He finally spoke to me on phone through the internet. The number was from LA. His voice sounded asian and italian.

All of a sudden he had to go to Nigeria for business.

"Good news" I have signed a contract for $410,000.00 american dollars. Three days later he sent me a 3 page letter decribing his dream of us making love and then sent another email saying he had bad news.

"I need to pay $8000 in tax to sign contract" He only had $6950. I was the only one to help him.

At this time he was telling me "I love you" on the phone and in the last 3 emails. I never said I love you back. When I confronted him about doing a skype session so that I knew he was real. He got mad and hung up on me.

But kept IM and texting me to send him money. I NEVER sent the money. I never thought I would get scammed. I am pretty smart.

But Nigeria scammers are getting smarter. We emailed for three weeks. And the emails were not pushy until the last two days. This happened Feb. 23. 2015

Please if someone is telling you god sent us here to meet. And there is a reason we are meant to be.

RUN RUN far away.

Please be aware out there the profile says he lives in Itasca. Then he asked for phone or email address.

I texted for only about a week and a half of back and forth texting and he suddenly rushed off to Nigeria for research as a geologist. Then when he arrived said he can't work cause he has to pay taxes and they closed the site.

He needed $800 to work. Conversations were always I love you, looking for a wife, my love, ok babe. Phone number is in Colorado. when I confronted him he says his profile was created by a friend when he was in Illinois for work.

Lucky I have a friend who is from Nigeria as not all of them are bad people. He said they have a pay as you work program for tax not all at once. Lucky I was saved. Please be careful he will say his name is Fred Kelvin Smith 49.

When he couldn't get me to send $800 he had the nerve to say send whatever you have in your wallet not less than $200.00!

Except no request for money as I caught on fast enough. Thank goodness there are still smart men and women out there. I still have some hope in mankind!

However, if there really is a man like that out there for me send my way okay...lmao!

NIGERIAN SCAMMERS
by: Anonymous

I had a similiar incident with a Lagos Nigeria scammer.

After 2 weeks of romantic sayings about you are beautiful, god sent us together, hunnie I want a wife so much, love craziness, baby boo angel face, - all so much garbage.

Then came the request for money. I am a construction worker but can't cash my cheque in Nigeria and my air ticket expired.

I want to meet you in person so could you send me $2000. I will pay you back when I arrive there.

Red flag went off.

He kept texting me for months asking for money until I finally changed my number.

There were excuses and lies about living on the street and having no money.

Beware of their con games.

I am glad I never fell into that trap so women beware as these romance scammers will do anything or say anything to con you.

same scam but from stephanietrisha2013@yahoo.com
by: Anonymous

Never, not once have I been asked for money yet. She has my name, and my cell number. And a website address of mine. There is nothing on the website though.

I was contacted at zoosk.com. Ironically by two "women" at the same time, both saying that God had brought us together etc. etc. Both sent pictures of attractive, but younger looking than profile stated, through my yahoo email and through chat.

Several times during the chat they would state what they were looking for in a partner. I think it is a great idea to send one to the other like the genus that posted here did. he he....here comes my fun part...

just another scam story
by: Edward Hughes

I created a profile at zoosk but did not become a paying member, I simlpy wanted to do a search to see if there were any women in my area on zoosk...

Well,I saw a heading that said TXT ME 5555555555 I used 5s here as example.... so I sent a txt that said hello and said I am txting you as you requested... I soon got a reply asking me to go to g mail because they charge me much for txting here and it will be good for us to know each other more and more... she was deep in love with me at the third or fourth message and all i could reply was "that is very sweet dear, but how can you love some one that you do not know?"

She said that we were sent here from god to be together forever hahaha right!!!! It has been one week now and I have made four attempts to get her to go to facebook with me but she will not, and says she does not like facebook.

I wonder why hahaha, asked her who takes her pics and asked for some different pics, I said that hers were model quality and very nice, but I want to see her in everyday life situations, .... cannot, dont have camera, asked me for 200$ said we could talk on phone for a week hahaha, told her i will need to know much more about her before i will do that...

Then came the i love you more and more we are meant to be together blah blah blah... I am thinking of a way to fool her/him a little... just to have a little fun..... so on Thurs night I was looking for her zoosk again but not there... NO, REALLY? haha.

When what did I see? another TXT ME 555555555555. It was a different girl same quality pic. she looked 19-25 profile said 48 hahahahaha woo hoo weeeeeeeeee.

Guess what I did? yep, sent same txt as to the other one , got the same reply,,, contact me at g mail they charge me much for txt here... whoever they are..... I looked a little at other scam sites and one said that there are no executives or models stranded in Nigeria..

These scammers are persistant, do not understand western slang, and use brb and other abrevs.. also cos instead of because... g mail names are humorous, americanized names spelled wrong and a number , I wonder what that number indicates hmmmmmm

John Tate
by: Anonymous

I was also contacted by John Tate on 2/13/12. Shortly after we started talking he had to rush off to Nigeria and his zoosk acct was also deleted.

We talked for weeks but he never asked for money. Then I didn't hear from him for 2 weeks. I was then contacted by another guy from zoosk, Steve Gonzales. Same career, story as John. I then figured that there was something shady goning on and sent them both an e-mail telling them to piss off and asking what they planned on gaining.

I now know that money would have come up. A few days ago John tried contacting me again. And then again asked me to get on messenger to talk. What part of F*#K OFF don't you get. Then stupid thing is, I got on here and searched his name to talk, and that's when I saw all the stories.

What a fool, but looking for true love will blind you to anything. Thank you ladies for all your stories!
