Oil Rig Engineer scam

by Anonymous

Beware ladies if an extremely handsome man, with a great smile, gorgeous brown eyes wants to be your friend. He is a smooth talker, will tell you he loves you immediately, asks for an ITune card so that he and you can keep talking. He will send you beautiful love poems and songs. He says he is a widower, having lost his wife in child birth with their second child. Has a 15 yr. old daughter in boarding school.

He is supposedly from Texas, but the first time I spoke to him I could tell he didn't have a Texas accent, sounded more Nigerian. We went on hangouts so we could talk privately and he text me many times a day. He would not answer a lot of the questions I asked him, although he did know quite a bit about working on an oil rig, but that doesn't mean he was working on one.

I know a lot about it too, because I have done an awful lot of research on Offshore Rigs since having met him. He send a lot of picture of himself, but recently I asked him for a recent photo of him working in his work gear. His response was he couldn't as his camera wasn't working. I asked him how the photos were taken and he said they were his old ones and I did believe that because you could tell that they were of him at different ages. When I suggested he have one of his co-workers take a photo and send it to his phone and then he could send it to my phone, his response was if I could I would.

Well that told me that the man in the photos I had, was not the same man I have been talking to. The guy probably had his profile photos stolen. This guy didn't want me to have a recent photo of him because he's not that guy. I do have to say he is very polite, respectful, never talked about sexual things, but the fact is he's a scammer.

Don't be taken in by him. These men are charmers, they're smart, but they are liars and devious people. He goes by the name Drew Phelps Johnson.

Found my guy on OurTime. I have tried reverse image search and had no luck. I think I'll keep digging. How heartbreaking to think that, at 62, I finally found my OTL. Same schtick about oil rig engineer from Texas, though with a 17 year old son. Also a widower whose wife died 5 years ago. Why do these guys prey on the lonely and gentle loving women?

I too was scammed but luckily my friend did a reverse image search and there was one of his photos he’d sent me. He was the manager on an Italian oil and gas rig off Sicily for 8 months and he had 2 months to go. His Late wife was called Ingrid and he was widowed 8 years ag.

He moved from Portugal when he lost her and said he lives in Ryefield ave, Uxbridge with his 3 dogs ?!!! He sent me photos of him and the dogs, a video of his view when he went onshore from the hotel balcony, him and his white bmw, so he was good. I called him out and all he said was " I’m very disappointed in you ...goodnight

I replied "deleted" and blocked and reported him on WhatsApp. It was only a week and he’d not got round to asking for anything so I was lucky.

This is the link to his scammed photo

Bottom far right under internet scams. He called himself Timothy Andre and he was 56 and his birthday was 31st October.

Ladies beware

Think I'm being scammed, happy to play along for a while now that I've figured him out. Nothing has been lost. Says he's from Texas, a widower. Lost his wife 8 years ago to cancer. Met on scrabble go. Professed his love within 2 days. Has anyone heard of this name. Don't know how to do a reverse search on the pic he sent me

Contacted me on Skout and told me that he was a widower with an adult son. Said that he was an oil rig engineer and was about to start a seven month contract. Repeatedly telling me that he wants to spend the rest of his life with me.

I did a little digging on the internet and found these pictures. Same person in the pictures here as he has been sending me.

This person is communicating with my mom - says he is in love with her and wants to marry her, 20yrs her junior! Widow and son killed in car accident 4yrs ago. House in Sweden, works on oil rig in Sicily, will be there for another 3 months to finish the job.

Of course all her interests are his interests also. Friended her through Facebook then quickly went to WhatsApp. Told her not to report, block or delete WhatsApp again and has told her twice to not have any friends. Knowing exactly how to tug on her heart strings, unfortunately she has fallen head over heels emotionally attached to this person.

Fake Barry Smith on Facebook
by: Anonymous

I had a Barry Smith contact me on Facebook. He was an older, good-looking widower with two children. Suspicious that this man was one of these Nigerian scammers, I took one of the photographs posted on his Facebook page at:

https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009269747469

and uploaded it into Google reverse photographs at:

https://www.labnol.org/internet/mobile-reverse-image-search/29014/

It turns out this man is a fraud! Google reverse indicates that this photograph was of a Scott Humpal, who is also on Facebook at:

https://www.facebook.com/humpal

The real Scott Humpal is president of Humpal Physical Therapy.

I hate these guys but you should never put those stolen photos in such a way as then the next ones will come and steal the photos that you have sent and so this travel wheel will keep turning.

Immediately mark photos with scammer and write on the picture that may as help my identity was stolen and dirty or something similar so that nobody can use these pictures anymore
